As full-size luxury sedans go, it doesn’t get bigger and better than the Lincoln Town Car. Introduced in 1980, it was one of the longest-running nameplates under Ford’s luxury division. It was also one of the longest, literally, vehicles ever made by Ford. The regular sized Lincoln Town Car measured just an inch under 18 feet, nearly half a foot longer than the mammoth Ford Expedition SUV. There’s also the L version that adds six more inches to the Town Car.

The Lincoln Town Car left the regular Lincoln lineup in 2011, and so did many of Ford’s mainstream sedans in the last few years. For the 2011 model year, the Lincoln Town Car was powered by a 4.6-liter flex-fuel V8 engine that produces 239 hp and 287 pound-feet of torque. Rear-wheel drive and a four-speed automatic transmission were standard. Its trunk space was unmatched among sedans, measuring at 21 cubic feet.

What Are Lincoln Town Cars Known For?

For three decades, the Lincoln Town Car has been a standard-bearer for Ford’s luxury offerings. In 1985, it was the first vehicle built by Ford to feature a CD player. And in the 1980s, which was the Town Car’s prime years, it set high standards for passenger comfort by including 6-way power seats, keyless entry, a 12-speaker premium JBL sound system, and a wood trim for the dash and steering wheel.
